Frequently asked questions (others want to know these things too)

What to expect in a psychology session?

Our first session will be spent getting to know one another, discussing what’s led you to therapy, and giving you an opportunity to ask me questions. From there, we’ll establish your designated day and time to meet weekly. Sessions are a combination of conversation and intervention as we talk about the events in your life (both currently and in the past) to uncover the patterns and ways of being that serve you well sometimes and other times not so much.

We'll talk lot about feelings and ways to adjust your thinking and behaviors. Most of all, together we make space for you to practice being who you want to be.

When is it best to seek therapy?

It could be time to seek therapy if an issue causes distress or interferes with daily life. Distress can mean negative thoughts, feelings, behaviors, or even a bodily sensation such as pain or fatigue. It is important not to wait until symptoms become severe before going to therapy. It may be best to seek therapy if you are often unhappy or feel overwhelmed and hopeless about issues in your life. Therapy can also help if you cannot focus on work or school.

How long do I need to be in therapy?

I meet with clients weekly and each session lasts for 55 minutes. This schedule maximizes the impact of the work and really allows us to make legitimate progress toward your goals. The total duration is up to you - some people come for a handful of sessions and feel equipped to move on. Others prefer to do deeper work and commit to longer periods of time.

Is therapy hard?

Yes, it can be (you wanted an honest answer, right?). Sitting with painful thoughts and emotions and uncovering new things about ourselves can be challenging. But that’s exactly what I’m trained to support you in, and processing these things allows you to break through the barriers you may currently feel constrained by. Things might get uncomfortable sometimes, and I’m here to sit in that right alongside you.

How much does therapy cost?

Fees vary depending on your circumstances as well as the frequency of our sessions together. Fees range between $80 and $360 for 50-120 minute sessions.

What if my schedule changes?

Life happens, and I know the nature of your work means your calendar can be unpredictable. I am happy to reschedule you the week before, during or after your designated appointment time.
